All things beautiful

  1. Beginning, you say?
  2. Beautiful textures
  3. Visiting Bali

Let me start off with a disclaimer – I am awful at spelling and my use of grammar probably worse, this would be much to my Mom’s horror as she was an English teacher. I am not going to over think these posts – this blog is how I speak or how I think “speak”. I wanted a safe space to share my love for beautiful spaces, people, food and of course wine. Not that I am an expert in any of those fields.

Follow my journey navigating our beautiful world. As I am writing my first blog post – took me a bloody while to figure out how to use this platform – I am sitting in Ubud, a very special place my Mom and I shared. The band at the hotel next door is playing Hotel California and the air is thick and warm. I am in my happy place. Can you tell?

Bali is the special place my dream of Harvey’s started. In 2019 I was on a buying trip with my Mom to furnish a lodge in the Eastern Cape – she had a shop in Queenstown for many years and she showed me the ropes on this trip. She introduced me to her suppliers on this journey and I will be forever grateful. On that trip she suggested why don’t you start something – and so the seed was planted. We were at this very hotel. http://www.theubudvillage.com

Don’t talk about heaven if you’ve never been to Bali

Ubud is one of my favourite places in Bali to visit – most of my suppliers sit in the villages surrounding it.

Beautiful Beginnings, you say?

About a month ago I left my full time job as a design teacher to pursue Harvey’s, I am here to grown and nurture this side hustle into my full time gig.

I have always believed if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life

Beautiful beginnings in nature

If you find yourself working in Bali and around spaces that feed your soul – what is not to love? After shopping until I dropped I gave myself the public holiday off and explored rice paddies and it was just perfect.

It feels as if you are looking at a postcard, a picture perfect postcard.

The green is so vibrant, the plants are just so alive. Everywhere you look – it is so perfectly imperfect.

If only my house plants had all this humidity and sunshine.

Beautiful textures

The plan for today was BASKETS. I spend the whole day looking and shopping for baskets, not a bad day in the office. One of my favourite things to do when designing and arranging spaces is to focus on how the textures work together.

I often see the texture of an item first before realising its form – weird right? I found the most amazing baskets and bags today – a few bags will be available as soon as I arrive in South Africa but the rest will only be available in August.

Visiting Bali

Well if you have made it this far on my blog page – you deserve a Bintang (local Bali beer). I am sure each post will get better… here’s to hoping!

Bali is the most magical place and it is absolutely devastating to see the negative effect Covid has had on this country. So many local shops and restaurants have closed down after the country was closed off for two years. I encourage you to come visit this beautiful country – I have been so inspired by all this beautiful places, that is why it is so important for me and Harveys to have the slogan of creating beautiful spaces. How can I not when most of the stock comes from one of the most beautiful spaces/places in the world.

My goal in the near future is to offer tours and planned trips to this beautiful place, giving the select few an insider tour of this magnificent country. For meantime I will just leave you with a few links if you want to plan your own trip.

Until next time, stay beautiful.
